Pride Rolls Around Again
Pride week started on the 3rd of June and for the first time, I went down to see the flag raising at City Hall here in Boston. I really wanted to take stock in what is actually means to be a part of a community of like minded folks who are truly there for each other. What I got was a group of privileged, elitist, racist folks that I couldn't suffer to be around. Familiar faces in the crowd reinforced this attitude as I flashed back to conversations I have had with them and it left a bitter taste in my mouth.
The theme for this year's pride is Equality: No More, No Less. Which raises the question, are we talking Marriage Equality (which is not on my gay political agenda; it's gonna happen) or Equality for all. The issues of teen suicide, disenfranchisement, gentrification, & skyrocketing HIV infection rates seem to not be popular for these ivory tower fags and it pains me.
There were a handful of brave, fed-up, queer people who started this movement and I feel like the point is being missed. They paid with blood, jail time, and unrest for all of us to be viewed as human beings and not deviants, freaks, or pederasts. As much as I love to play and shake my ass during these festivities, it can be hollow when your audience is too high or drunk to really take stock in what this really means. Sorry if I am getting too deep, but I think it's needed to remind folks of what Stonewall means then and now.

The Black Church vs. Homosexuality: Why?
My name is Jason Fair and I am a preacher's kid. Newly. After years of backsliding and living his life on the edge, my father decided later on in life to become a pastor. He had a history of outreach work behind him and also wanted to get right with God later in life. Or it could have just been the tax break you get when you are a religious institution...but I digress.
One of the many cold Sunday mornings I would venture out with my younger brother in tow to attend Sunday Services @ Morning Star Baptist (strictly for the 20 he would give us for going), the congregation was in full swing. Praising the word of God and singing to the rafters, it was a great feeling of positivity in the room. I felt at home. Then the reverend acceded to the pulpit and began his sermon. Timely and with the backing of the choir and band, I was awestruck.
But, as the sermon came to a close and we began the closing prayer, things veered of course. I was a 16 year old closeted queer man and had enough insecurities and self esteem issues to deal with. Being the fat gay black gay kid with tits was hard enough and what the reverend said next made it a little tougher...
"Please save our youth from the demons of drug use...street violence...premarital sex....and HOMOSEXUALITY"
WHAT????? Nigga, are you serious?
I was taken aback. But I soon found out that there were a LARGE number of closeted men in the Black Church. You need to look no further than the CHOIR DIRECTOR to see a flamboyant gay man leading us all in praise.
Then, fast forward over 10 years later, I turn on my Google Reader to check the latest on what Colby Keller is up to, and I come across this story about Bishop Eddie Long and the 3 (now 4) young men who have accused improprieties against him. They allegedly claim they were his "Spiritual Sons" and would use biblical stories to coerce them into sexual acts. "Releasing his passion" as it stated on QueerClick. Then YBF, Bossip, & Concrete Loop all had reported on it previously and it spread like wildfire. A man of the cloth who had stolen money or were involved in a sex scandal is not uncommon. This was such a (pardon the pun) fart in the church moment because of his anti gay stance on well.... everything.
I think of the line from one of my favorite drag comedian/performer Ms. Coco Peru (Trick, To Wong Foo,..) once said in her stand up act. "Men that make fun of other men who suck dick...SUCK DICK!"
Hypocrisy is as old as sin and the thing that matters most in this affair is the truth. Where these really acts that took place? Did the Bishop exploit men who came to him for spiritual guidance or mentorship? The truth has yet to be told on the matter. My opinion is this....no straight man who posts pics of himself on www.GuysWithIPhones.com is looking to offer anyone council. They are trying to get some ass. :)

Well well...
The streamers are away, the booty shorts are back in moth balls, and the pride flag has been folded and put away. Pride is over, but there is still one matter that I need to handle from the weekend of insanity. You might have seen in my last post that I did an event on the Saturday of Boston Pride. Well, normally I wouldn't put anyone on BLAST, but after being dicked around for the past month and trying to chase down someone for payment...I decided to let it go and just delete said person from my facebook. My life is stressful enough without having to deal with someone who is lacking in moral fiber, lies consistently, and is someone i have grown to know to be someone i wouldn't spit on if they were on fire.
this pretty much sums up how i feel.

Gay Pride 2010

Some of my colorful coworkers :)
As this Boston Pride comes to a close, I decided to give my brief synopsis of my experience. It started with my new night Vice @ Machine Nightclub. That was the calmest night. On the following Friday, I was working security door detail at Ramrod and it was...colorful. After a long night of telling people to leave their drinks inside (we need a sign), I jetted home to sleep to be up for a gig for Guerilla Queer Bar at 11am. Upon getting there, there was an audio problem that prevented me from playing. The only thing that was left to do was to watch the parade pass by and then try to enjoy a little bit of the festivities.
Another night of working (behind the bar this time) and the 30 plus hours of work in 48 hours led me to collapse in bed and not wake up 9pm. I had a goal of making enough to take care of a pressing matter. Let's just say, it's not pressing as much, but still feeling the squeeze.
So that brings us to now...just updated my photo on Twitter, Myspace, Facebook, and every other social networking network to this....

I am the chief promoter and talent for this evening. Nerve racking, but lots of fun as well. Alright, I am going to go back to looking for another job. My days at Aramark are coming to an end....As soon as I get an interview, I will get it and bid the lovely people of Aramark a fond fairwell. Oh and if you aren't doing anything tonight...I am having a bday thing at Dirty Sexy Mondays tonight. Come by if you have a liver left after this weekend.
P.S.
Went to Clubbies during the festivities...Can't believe I used to work there.

....god, I am in love with Nicki Minaj!
Any who, there are some interesting things going on, namely more people coming out to Edge Fridays for yours truly (which i am truly grateful for). I have also started a new LESBIAN night at Club Choices in Somerville. Not the typical ladies' night, but we are going to have some exciting things going on, so stay tuned and bring yourselves out!
Back to the grind, children!
See you in the funny papers!

Jumpy
Well, it begins again. The loss of appetite, the constant worrying, the fear of it all. It's not the college students coming back to Boston. It's the fact that I might wind up in the hordes of the newly homeless. 7 days ago, I received an eviction notice due to a promo job that was reported as being income. This has happened before and caused an agreement that I had to become null and void. Or so says the lovely people that run this apartment complex.
I am more angry than anything. I have managed to get together the funds to pay it off, but I am worried that I might still be out on my ear. The process is long (thank god) to get to that point and I will have found another place to stay. In all honesty, I am glad this happened. This neighborhood is volatile and toxic. One of the many vestiges that need to be shed in order to start a new.
The sore spot is that my family has been in this neighborhood since the end of slavery and I feel it's an end to an era. I can only hope that my mother is looking down and saying it's o.k. to let go of this place. Life is bigger than this block, and I am remaining steadfast that I will now be able to being again and start off with a clean slate.
A final note, for any of my other folks that are living in HUD housing....get out while you can. Anyway how, just do it.
Off to spin away the problems of the day..
Talk soon,
Buck Foston (Jason)

well hello...
it's been a while since my last post, but here are the long and short of things.
-i have cried myself to sleep every night racked with guilt and regret.
-i started smoking weed again to deal with problems (which now i am abstaining from)
- the guys i like still don't like me and want to have nothing to do with me unless it's sexual (and most times; not even then).
- i went to me and shane's special place today and was reminded at every turn that i miss him and wish he was there to experience it with me.
- i have a gum infection and need to get it treated asap.
- that i am alone and love will not come back to me anytime soon.
- that there is nothing more painful than losing someone to suicide.
- that i need to get my shit together and pick up the pieces for the umpteenth time in a row.
- that i love me more than anyone else.
that is all

One Pride Gig Down...3 to go!
There is a special feeling in the city this week. Aberzombies are getting their highlights, Baby Dykes are pressing their button ups, Drag Queens are roaming the city in full regalia..It's PRIDE Week in the (insert Menino mumbel here)cityofboston. This would be Pride no. 5 for me and to be honest, I am kinda over it.
If there was either more of a party vibe and/or more of what PRIDE is actually about, it might be a bit more interesting. As for now, it's parties, marches, and assorted other shit. This is a particularly busy time for me; getting back into djing and finding a new audience to play to. That part is exciting and scary at the same time. But, after this weekend, I will be o.d.'ing on all things queer......
That is until I jump on the bus and go to NY Pride..Heeey!
Last night @ Umbria, the girls had a good time and that is all that matters. I had some tech issues, but then I always do. As long as the ladies enjoyed themselves, my problems fall by the wayside.
Tonight, it's DISCO DIVAS at Club Cafe. So this should be interesting...Let's see how this plays out.

Another sleepless night...

I sometimes do stay up all night and think way too much. In my 3 decades being here, I have experienced some rough shit, but nothing that can't be dealt with through time and having a creative outlet.
This last go round though is proving to be more difficult than even I can deal with. You see, the man I was head over heels in love with (pun intended) committed suicide. We were no longer together, but I thought that if he got his shit together, then maybe one day, we would be. That will now never happen. The initial pain from it was so deafening that I couldn't do anything but block it out.
That lasted for a day. I found myself wrapped around my toilet crying and throwing up; not knowing why he did this or what brought him to this point. The manner in which he discussed this prior was always done in the least painful way possible. He didn't take that route. He chose to hang himself and have his partner find him and here lies the complexity of this whole issue.
The reason we initially ended our relationship was that simple fact.
Time had passed, but he didn't change his ways when we rekindled our relationship. The details of the last break-up are pretty clear cut. He enjoyed having his cake and eating it as well. For this I am truly sorry that I didn't end things earlier.
He had a sharp decent into insanity and I could not take that trip with him. For as much as life can sometimes be unbearable, things do and will get better. I wish he could have seen that. I wish he could have known how much he was going to be missed and could step away from the situation that ended his young life.
Will all the lies, it's so hard to see the truth and honesty in this. There isn't enough weed or drinks to make this hurt less. I have put myself on autopilot as to make it through the days and nights.
I will always love you, Shane. No matter where you are or where I wind up, know that I will always be your baby.

OK..
Now that THAT is out of my system for the time being, there are some things that I wanted to catch you up with. First, the show fell through..The promoter(s) decided to go with Donnie Klang and who knows if the show is still happening; either way I am not doing it.
The mini-ball fell through, but I got a new gig at Club Cafe and we are in the process of fine tuning it to tailor to what I do. Every Thursday from 8-1, you can catch yours truly VJing all of the hits from when CC opened and adding in special touches of gaydom.
Also, back at Fenway Park for this season, but with the current mgmt. not sure how long I will continue to be there. I did make some good friends there and will miss them if i have to go, but if I go..It will be with a bang.
Anywho, some tracks to check out...
Took The Night - Chelley
Do It - Keri Hilson (Album Bonus Track)
Fertilizer - James Fauntleroy
More to come..ttys

L'amour, L'amour!
What is love? Is it what was written in 1st Corinthians? Or is it the joy you feel when you are around someone who gets you...how they make your feel and how you want make them happy? Whatever it is, it's struck me once again. Fuck, I wish i could just write another blog about music or movies, but I am in it, children. The thought of this person makes my heart skip and want to do things that would make Anne Sprinkle (google her) blush.
To that special person, I would love to spend as much time as possible with you and talk, watch movies, listen to music, and have the most amazing body altering, mind bending, soul searching sex.
I figured I would put it out in the universe. You know who you are hopefully. If not, you will find out very soon!

Some Exciting News...
A friend of mine has been asked to open up for Bobby Valentino in May and I will be performing with him. This is a great opportunity and I will keep y'all posted as soon as the details are finalized.
Also, Bobby V's (The Rebirth) and Ryan Leslie (Self-Titled) albums dropped yesterday. Cop em, great additions to your music collection.
Movie wise, your boy has been catching up on his flicks and has a movie recommendation.

Friday the 13th:
Saw this on Monday and if you are up for a great scare this coming weekend, this is the movie to watch. (SPOILER ALERT)I will put it like this...5 people catch it before the real movie starts. Sex, drugs, and machete wielding psychos. A great addition to the series.
That's it for now. Almost forgot, doing a mini ball at Machine on March 1st. Will load the flyer up ASAP! TENS ACROSS THE BOARD!!

As the year comes to a close...
Hey y'all,
As we draw closer to the end of 2008, I have been taking inventory in what the year has brought and what is looming on the horizon. Things have been topsy-turvy in the past year and some major growth has taken place for me on a personal and spiritual level.
Reuniting with loved ones and reaffirming my faith in most of what humanity has to offer is positive have been my personal missions for the year. What has also been on the agenda as of late is not allowing those who would bring unneeded strife and bullshit to affect my life and lives of those I love.
So the motto for 2009 is...If you are blocking my progress, prepared to get rolled over and left behind.
P.S.
A very special thank you to all of those who came to the last 2 events I had at Machine here in Boston. Small steps lead to big journeys.
One love, y'all. See you in 2009.

The Trials
After an long break from spinning for the people, I am back at it tonight and I am more nervous than the first gig I played oh so many years ago. For starters, the macbook I have been using DIED on me the other day. After bringing it into the apple store, I was told the logic board needed to be replaced and that it wouldn't be ready in time for the party. A few quick phone calls and I was able to get things together so that I can in fact play tonight...Thank God.
I hope to see y'all out tonight because I am busting my ass to make this joint pop off!!!
